From a YouTube video to a platform for millions of students
It all started in 2004, when Salman Khan —an engineer and analyst trained at MIT and Harvard— began helping a cousin with her math lessons remotely. To reach more relatives, he uploaded his explanations to YouTube… and discovered that thousands of strangers were learning from them too.
In 2008 he turned that idea into Khan Academy, a nonprofit with a goal as simple as it was ambitious: to offer a world-class education to anyone, anywhere.
Today, more than a decade later, its videos, exercises, and tools support millions of students and teachers in more than 190 countries and dozens of languages.
